‘Tis the season to adopt a four-legged family member
By: AllAroundGordon.com / Calhoun, GA / By John Shivers

We love animals around here at All Around Gordon.com, having 3 four legged members in the family and with one of those being a rescue pup, we wanted to share this with you.

While it's still a week until "Turkey Day," there's no time like TODAY to acquire a new family member, save a life, and save $25.00. Now that's something to give thanks for.

The Gordon County Animal Shelter located at 790 Harris Beamer Road west of Calhoun, is offering $25.00 off the normal adoption fee during the month of November. During the past year, shelter personnel have not had to euthanize any animals because the community has responded to adopt those dogs and cats.

However intake during the month of October was up 37% over October 2014, and those animals need a forever home. And they need it now. That dog or cat that you allow into your heart and into your home this holiday season will show you how thankful they are 365 days of the year. The only other alternative for these animals is the alternative no one wants to talk about. But it's very much a reality.

The Board of Commissioners earlier this year approved a new Animal Control Fee Schedule and a change in the hours the shelter is open to the public.  Both of the changes will enable the Gordon County Animal Control to make sure that adoptable animals are available to the public on weekends.  The additional proceeds will assist in their ongoing efforts to make sure animals are spayed and/or neutered, before the owner takes their pet home.

The Shelter is open on Monday and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Thursday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. They're closed on county holidays. For more information please visit: http://www.gordoncounty.org/departments/animal-control/ or call 706.629.3327. Check on the website to find your new family member. And if you want to help those homeless animals, but can't adopt, you can join Friends of the Gordon County Animal Shelter. You can also contact Gordon County Commissioners to let them know how important their support is for the spay / neuter program.

Yes, please adopt a dog or cat from a shelter before going through pet stores. There are so many wonderful animals that just want a home. Thank you for this!
